Ever feel like your heating setup just isn’t cutting it? That’s where twin tube halogen lamps come in. Basically, we’ve put two filaments into one tight space to double the heat. It’s a lifesaver when you’ve got a massive thermal load but zero extra room to work with. The best part? They use shortwave infrared. Instead of wasting time heating up all the air around the machine, the energy goes straight into the material. It’s direct. It’s efficient.
The Power Stuff
We can tweak the voltage and wattage to fit whatever power supply you’re already running. But here is a heads-up: these high-wattage tubes hit hard. You’ll want to make sure your transformers can handle that initial “cold-start” spike. If you try to cram too much wattage into a short tube, the filament gets incredibly hot. You’ll get a ton of heat flux, sure, but you’re also putting a lot of stress on the quartz glass. It’s a balancing act.
Build and Connections
We use high-purity quartz because, frankly, these things get hot enough to shatter cheap glass. Depending on what you’re heating, we can add coatings to bounce the heat back toward your workpiece or block out the UV. As for the plugs, you’ve got two main choices: *R7s: A simple push-in. Quick and easy. *Sk15: This one locks in. Use this if your machine shakes or vibrates a lot; you don’t want your lamps rattling loose.
Real-World Use (and the Catch)
You’ll see these all over PET blowing and shrink-wrapping lines. They ramp up almost instantly, so you aren’t standing around waiting for the machine to warm up while your production line sits idle. But there is a trade-off. All that concentrated energy has to go somewhere. If your cooling fans or heat sinks are too small, the housing can actually warp. Worst case? The lamps suffer from “heat soak” and burn out way faster than they should. Keep them cool, and they’ll treat you right.
