Let’s be honest: large plastic plants lose a staggering amount of money on imported heating elements. It’s a recurring headache, especially in PET blowing and thermoforming lines where lamps seem to burn out the moment you look away. But here’s the thing. You don’t actually need those overpriced imports to keep your line moving. Switching to high-spec domestic infrared lamps can shave millions off your yearly maintenance bills without slowing down your production for a second. Getting the heat right If you want plastic to soften fast, you need a serious thermal punch. That’s where the wattage-to-voltage ratio comes in. A 2500W lamp at 400V does the trick. The perk of going with higher voltage? Your wiring can be thinner and you put less strain on the machine’s power bus. Now, if you’re using a 300mm tube, the heat is intense. Really intense. Just make sure your cooling fans are actually up to the task. If they aren’t, the heat soak will fry your reflectors and kill your lamps way too soon. The gear inside the glass We use heavy-wall quartz glass for a reason. It stops the tube from bowing when things get hot. Then there’s the halogen cycle, which keeps the tungsten filament from evaporating and leaving those annoying dark spots on the glass. We’ve all seen those—they ruin your heat uniformity. For plastic work, we often add a special coating to the glass. This helps the heat sink deep into the material instead of just scorching the surface. As for the fit, we use R7s or Sk15 connectors. They just slide right in, replacing most European or American brands without any fuss. One quick tip: keep an eye on your voltage stability. Cheap transformers love to spike, and those spikes are filament killers.
