Here is how they actually work: we’ve got a tungsten filament tucked inside a quartz tube, filled with a special halogen gas. Now, the gas isn’t just there for show. It stops the tungsten from evaporating and sticking to the glass. That means your lamp doesn’t burn out in a heartbeat and the heat stays steady for a long time. The heat is different here. Since these use shortwave IR energy, the heat doesn’t waste time warming up the air in your shop. It travels in a straight line and punches right into the surface of your material. It’s fast. Really fast. But a quick heads-up: if you’re packing a bunch of these into a tight array, make sure you’ve got some decent airflow. If the ends of the lamps get too hot, the seals can fail, and that’s a headache you don’t want. About the build… We use high-purity quartz because it can handle a massive temperature swing without cracking. Plus, it lets the IR energy pass through without getting blocked.
