A No-Nonsense Guide to Halogen Quartz Heating Tubes

If you need heat—and you need it now—halogen quartz tubes are your best bet. They aren’t your average light bulbs. We take a tungsten filament, wrap it in high-purity quartz, and add a specific halogen gas mix. Why the gas? It stops the filament from evaporating too fast. This lets us crank the temperature way higher than you’d ever get with a standard lamp.

Getting the Power Right

The real magic happens in the wattage-to-length ratio. Think of it this way: if you pack a lot of wattage into a short tube, you get an intense blast of heat. This is a lifesaver for things like PET blowing or plastic welding, where you need the material to soften in a matter of seconds. We use high-voltage setups so you can hit those power targets without blowing out your wiring. But here’s a heads-up: these high-density tubes are brutal on your reflectors. If your reflectors are dirty or pitted, you’re basically wasting heat by venting it into the machine frame. Keep them clean.

The Gear and the Glass

We use quartz because it’s tough. You can hit it with extreme heat and it won’t just crack under the pressure. Depending on what you’re heating, you might want a coating. A gold or blackened finish shifts the heat from shortwave to medium-wave. It’s the difference between heating just the surface and actually penetrating deep into the material. As for the plugs, we stick with R7s or Sk15 connectors. They’re standard. You can usually just pop them into your existing industrial heaters without having to build a custom rig from scratch.

The Catch

The best part? They’re instant. Flip the switch, and you have heat. No waiting around for a warm-up cycle. But there is a trade-off. Quartz is finicky.
