
Getting the Most Out of 230V Tungsten Halogen Lamps
If you’re running industrial processes that need heat—and they need it now—you know the drill. You can’t afford to wait around for a slow warm-up. That’s why we build our 230V tungsten halogen lamps the way we do. They use a halogen cycle to keep things clean. Basically, the gas stops tungsten from gunking up the quartz glass. This keeps the light clear and the filament temperature steady, so you aren’t guessing where your heat is coming from. The Power Play We went with a 230V rating for a simple reason: it just works with standard industrial grids. You don’t have to mess around with bulky, expensive transformers. Here’s the trick: we tweak the filament length against the wattage to hit your specific heat targets. If we shorten that filament, the current density spikes, pushing the lamp into short-wave infrared. The result? The heat penetrates way faster. Just a heads-up, though—make sure your wiring is up to the task. If your wires are too thin, you’ll deal with voltage drops, and you won’t get the punch you’re paying for. Quartz and Connections Rapid heating is brutal on materials. To stop the glass from bowing or cracking under the pressure, we use high-purity quartz. It handles the thermal shock without breaking a sweat. When it comes to fitting these into your setup, we usually go with R7s or SK15 connectors. They’re designed to be drop-in replacements for most heating banks. They grip tight and keep the electrical resistance low. And please, don’t cut corners on the connectors. Cheap parts lead to arcing and carbon buildup, which is a recipe for a headache you don’t need. Real-World Use (and the Catch) You’ll see these lamps everywhere in PET bottle blowing and plastic curing. They’re great because they blast the preform with heat without melting the surface into a puddle. But there is a catch. When these tubes hit peak temperature, they get fragile. Really fragile. A single fingerprint—just a tiny bit of oil from your skin—or a speck of dust can create a “hot spot.” That spot turns into a localized melt-through, and suddenly your lamp is dead. Keep them spotless. It’s the easiest way to make sure they actually last.
